Fight to Win, or Bring Them Home.

Obama is trying to ride the fence between his statements that Afghanistan is the central front in the War on Terror, and his liberal left-wing base who see him as a “traitor” to their causes for still being in Iraq and Afghanistan.  Having won the Nobel Peace Prize yesterday on the basis of what people “hope” he will accomplish only makes his position tougher.  If he pulls out of Afghanistan or fails to give his commanders what they need to achieve victory, he breaks campaign promises and alienates the potential conservative allies he might have gained from strong policy in the region.  If he does give his commanders what they ask for, he alienates the left.  The tightrope policy I heard being poorly stated yesterday was that he was basically planning on “fighting” a holding action.  We don’t defeat the enemy, we just occupy certain parts of the country.  That spells defeat for us in Afghanistan just as it did for the Soviets before us.  The military was not intended to be a nation building police force.  The military is designed to win swift, violent victory.  When you tell them NOT to go out and defeat the enemy, just to sit tight, you make them targets and get lots of them killed.  Obama’s naivety in all things beyond community organizing rears its ugly head once again.

Attention Washington:

History has shown us that you can’t compromise with evil.  History has also shown us that containment and appeasement will not work.  World War 2, the Cold War, and many other times in the previous century we demonstrated that these policies simply bought the enemy time to grow stronger.

In Afghanistan, Iraq, and other places around the world we are engaged with an enemy unlike any we have ever faced.  It is an enemy with values and goals so drastically different from our own that most Americans simply can’t grasp the depth of evil we are dealing with.  What normally threatens civilized people, like death or economic collapse, does not motivate or intimidate this enemy.  They have proven to be liars who can’t be trusted or negotiated with.   Employing a policy of containment and appeasement with this enemy only gives them time to grow stronger while draining our resources.  They kill us a few at a time and sway public opinion at home.  If we are only going to commit enough resources and manpower to “keep the enemy at bay,” then we have already lost.

We must either fight to win, or bring our military home.  Keeping them in harm’s way with no hope of victory will condemn untold numbers of Americans to death.

Fight to win, or bring them home.
