America Waking Up to the Reality That We Need to Brace for Impact

The pilot was locked out of the cockpit. That phrase finally revealed the full horror of the crash of Germanwings flight 9525. Co-pilot Andreas Lubitz waited for the pilot to leave the cockpit, then locked the door to prevent his re-entry. After which Lubitz, for reasons unknown and perhaps unknowable, deliberately steered the jet into a harrowing 8 minute plunge ending in an explosive 434 mph impact
with a rocky mountainside. 150 men, women and children met an immediate, unthinkably violent death.

Lubitz, in his single-minded madness, couldn’t be stopped because anyone who could change the jet’s disastrous course was locked out. It’s hard to imagine the growing feelings of fear and helplessness that the passengers felt as the unforgiving landscape rushed up to meet them. Hard – but not impossible.

Because America is in trouble. We feel the descent in the pits of our stomachs. We hear the shake and rattle of structures stressed beyond their limits. We don’t know where we’re going anymore, but do know it isn’t good. And above all, we feel helpless because Barack Obama has locked us out.

He locked the American people out of his decision to seize the national healthcare system. Locked us out when we wanted to know why the IRS was attacking conservatives. He locked us out of having a say in his decision to tear up our immigration laws, and to give over a trillion dollars in benefits to those who broke those laws.

Obama locked out those who advised against premature troop withdrawals. Locked out the intelligence agencies who issued warnings about the growing threat of ISIS . He locked out anyone who could have interfered with his release of five Taliban terror chiefs in return for one U.S. military deserter.

And of course, Barack Obama has now locked out Congress, the American people, and our allies as he strikes a secret deal with Iran to determine the timeline (not prevention) of their acquisition of nuclear weapons.

Was Andreas Lubitz depressed, insane, or abysmally evil when he decided to lock that cockpit door and listen to no voices other than those in his head? Did he somehow believe himself to be doing the right thing?

The voice recordings from the doomed aircraft reveal that as the jet began its rapid descent, the passengers were quiet. There was probably some nervous laughter, confusion, a bit of comforting chatter with seat mates, followed by a brief period in which anxiety had not yet metastasized into terror.

It was only near the end of the 8 minute plunge that everyone finally understood what was really happening. Only near the end when they began to scream.

Like those passengers, a growing number of Americans feel a helpless dread as they come to the inescapable conclusion that our nation’s decline is an act of choice rather than of chance. The choice of one man who is in full control of our 8 year plunge. A man who has locked everyone out.

Where Do Your “Rights” Come From?

If your rights are not endowed by God, but are arbitrarily granted by man, then those rights can arbitrarily be taken away by man. We are seeing that taking place RIGHT NOW. Also, a “right” does not take away from another. If you look at many/most of the so-called “rights” granted by government, they take from one to redistribute to another. “Free” healthcare, “free” education, etc. The government takes by force from those who have earned these things to provide them to those who have not. When men and government decide that your rights are inconvenient, they can arbitrarily take them away. Right to bear arms? Government sees that as a threat, so they are trying to take it away. Right to choose your own doctor? Government views that as unnecessary and “unfair,” so they HAVE taken that away. The right to free speech? Already gone. The government can decide if your words are “hateful” and whether or not you can speak them. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness? Yes, now even your basic right to LIFE is at the whim of the government if we have allowed them to take our other rights AND the ability to defend them.

Amid all the contemporary political and cultural contests, too many conservatives fail to make the case for overarching eternal truths – whether in debate with adversaries across the aisles of Congress, or with neighbors across Main Street.

Lost in the din is the foundational endowment of Essential Liberty, and any debate that does not begin with this eternal truth will end with temporary deceits.

The most oft-cited words from our Declaration of Independence are these: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

The eternal assertion that Liberty for all people is “endowed by their Creator” and is thus “unalienable” should require no defense, because “we hold these truths to be self-evident,” and because the rights of man are irrevocable from the “Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God.”

But the root of all debate between Liberty and tyranny – or, in political parlance, between Right and left – is the contest to assert who endows Liberty – God or man. Continue reading

Obama 2008: VA will be ‘leader of health care reform’

Obama promised to “make the VA a leader of national health care reform” back in 2008. You probably think he broke that promise. On the contrary. The VA, with its wait lists, denial of healthcare, inability to provide care, and vets dying of neglect, is THE example of what Obamacare is leading to. Promise kept.

Hero of the left, Paul Krugman, said this about the VA in 2011:

Krugman added, “Yes, this is ‘socialized medicine’ … But it works, and suggests what it will take to solve the troubles of US health care more broadly.”

This was when they thought they could still sell us full scale socialized medicine like Canada, the UK, and others have.  Well, that’s effectively what we will have once this all takes full effect, but it’s because they lied about what we were being sold, AND the shoved it down our throats despite MASSIVE objections from the majority of the American people.  Over 80% of people were happy with the health insurance they had at the time, and remember that NOT. ONE. SINGLE. REPUBLICAN voted for this abortion of a law.

Yes, the problems in the VA were identified during the Bush administration.  But here’s the deal.  Obama was briefed thoroughly on those problems when he took office, AND he campaigned heavily on fixing those problems as illustrated above.  So, just like the economy that has never recovered and is heading for another full scale recession due to Obama’s policies, Obama OWNS the VA mess just like he OWNS the economy now after 5 and a half years of promises and failed progressive policies.

Oh, and don’t fail to notice that Obama and his willing state-run media have moved on to the prisoner swap for Bowe Bergdahl as a means of distracting Americans angry about the treatment of our veterans with another issue.  But as usual, Obama’s distraction is turning out to be another scandal in itself.  Huh.

WASHINGTON — It’s one of those promises the president would probably like to forget.

In vowing to make the Veterans Administration the model of national health-care reform back in 2008, the outlook for scandal-plagued Obamacare suddenly seems even worse.

WND has discovered that during his transition into the White House in 2008-09, President Obama proposed in his “Obama-Biden” plan to “make the VA a leader of national health care reform so that veterans get the best care possible.”

Obama ‘madder than hell’ (that he got caught) over VA treatment allegations

I’m sorry, Barry. I don’t believe you. EVERY time there has been some sort of scandal within your administration which you could no longer ignore, you have ALWAYS declared how mad you are about it, and PROMISEDnot to rest” until you got to the bottom of the scandal. And EVERY time, rather than tirelessly working to get to the bottom of the scandal, you have stonewalled, lied, and gone golfing or fundraising. The simple FACT is, Mr. SoetorObama, that you are a LIAR. You have lied every time there has been an opportunity to tell the truth. You were even awarded the “lie of the year” for you Obamacare deception. The only thing you are mad about over the VA scandal is that YOU. GOT. CAUGHT. Remember your (empty) promises to “reduce backlogs” at VA hospitals and treatment facilities? Well, I guess we now know how you intended to do it. You undoubtedly directed your flunkies to ration care, destroy records, and cancel appointments just to make your numbers look better. And you even claimed that improvements were being made… right up until you got caught. You are a disgrace to America, Barry. And you dishonor the office of President of the United States. You deserve a much worse fate than I could ever bestow upon you.


Obama ‘madder than hell’ over VA treatment allegations

The President is demanding that Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki “continue to fix these things”

WASHINGTON — The White House chief of staff says President Barack Obama is “madder than hell” about reports of treatment delays at veterans’ hospitals across the country.

Top aide Denis McDonough tells CBS’ “Face the Nation” that Obama is demanding that Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki (shin-SEHK’-ee) and others in the administration “continue to fix these things until they’re functioning the way that our veterans believe they should.”

Allegations of preventable deaths that may be linked to delays at the Phoenix VA hospital have triggered an election-year uproar.

On Friday, the top official for veterans’ health care resigned.

House Republicans have set a vote for Wednesday on legislation that would give Shinseki greater power to fire or demote executives and administrators at the agency and its 152 medical centers.

The Collapse of the Healthcare System and Insurance Industry is Beginning

The Free Market Only “Fails” When Liberal/Progressive Politicians Interfere With It

It’s both entertaining and frustrating to hear liberal progressives making the claim that “capitalism and the free market has failed.”  That’s funny since nearly every “failure of the free market” can pretty easily be traced to intervention by government, and the resulting market distortion of that intervention.  Here are a few examples.

  1. Healthcare & Wage/Price Controls – Up until around the time of WWII, most people paid cash or bartered with their doctor for medical services.  During WWII, the government implemented wage and price controls across the economy.  Because wages were fixed, businesses had to come up with other ways to attract the few quality workers who hadn’t gone off to war.  Many started offering medical “insurance” as one of their perks.  Medical care is a limited commodity, and when you subsidize the price of a limited commodity so that the consumer doesn’t feel the regulating pain of price, people consume more of that product than they otherwise would.  When the demand for a commodity goes up and supply can’t be immediately increased, price naturally increases as a means to regulate demand.  When you artificially hold the price down, you create a shortage.  Fast forward to today with Obamacare.  The government subsidizes healthcare for millions who couldn’t afford it before, which seems like the compassionate thing to do.  But at the same time millions MORE will be getting access to a limited number of doctors, the government is limiting what doctors will be reimbursed, thus controlling price, but not addressing real COST.  A demand for medical services is created that outstrips capacity.  Government created shortage.
  2. Housing Market – All you need to look at here is the 2008 economic crash precipitated by the bursting of the housing bubble.  How did that bubble inflate?  One word: government.  There were many contributory causes, but the main causes were manipulation and coercion of the banking industry in an attempt to achieve a specific SOCIAL outcome.  The Community Reinvestment Act is one of those causes.  Banks were pressured to abandon sound historic banking practices to make more loans in high risk areas.  Hiding under the fallacy that this was all to prevent the practice of racial “red lining,” banks were told directly or indirectly to either make the loans, or else.  Normally if a bank makes bad loans, they go out of business.  But government removed the moral restraints, and overrode the sound banking practices that had been in place for centuries, all with the promise that if the loans went bad, government would bail out the banks.  Sound familiar?  Thus through provisions in the law (written by government), banks sold bad loans as securities spreading out the risk to many other sectors of the economy.  The sheer volume of these bad loans, and the mounting risk, was pointed out in the early 2000’s, but the liberals lead by people like Maxine Waters and Barney Frank told us “Remain calm.  All is well.”  Fast forward to 2008 and the economic crash caused by government intervention in the free market, NOT by the free market itself.
  3. The labor market – There are so many ancillary issues to this one.  Illegal immigration/amnesty, tax code, government regulations, etc.  The one I’ll speak to specifically here is the government imposed minimum wage.  As mentioned above with health care, health care is labor, and labor is a commodity.  Businesses pay wages for labor commensurate with the value which that labor adds to the company.  It might be worth $3/hr for a store owner to pay a kid to sweep his floors a few times per week.  But if forced by government to pay $15/hr for that same unskilled labor, the store owner will likely not hire that young kid, and will sweep his floors himself.  This eliminates entry level jobs, prevents young people from gaining work experience, and distorts the labor market and the price of goods.  The artificially inflated labor costs also hasten the move to automation.  Automation and the advancement of technology is inevitable, but when you ARTIFICIALLY raise the minimum wage, you will only hasten the day when companies will choose to replace their unreliable carbon-based employees with robotic employees who don’t take breaks, don’t have healthcare costs (other than maintenance), can’t unionize, and don’t get pensions.  In general, businesses have 4 choices when faced with an artificially increased labor cost.  Absorb the cost by reducing profit, raise prices (which may reduce demand, thus not paying for the increased labor, leading to layoff or closure), eliminate the job/not create the job, or go out of business.  Thus the minimum wage actually harms the very people it was claimed to be helping.

So, if you’re an employee with minimum skill, minimum motivation, and minimum education who contributes minimum value to the company’s bottom line, you deserve minimum pay.  You want $15/hr to flip burgers?  Sorry, your not worth it.
